Beginning in May 2004, the Forum
will provide a space for reflection in relation to the main cultural
and social conflicts that humanity is faced with at the outset
of the 21st century. It will be organised around three main themes:
cultural diversity, sustainable development, and conditions for
peace.
The city has been preparing itself
for the event since 1999. A 300,000 square meter site on the city’s
shoreline has been redeveloped and includes a Convention Centre
with capacity for 15,000 people as well as exhibition areas, a
new Marina, parks and beaches.
